CEIRS Center Principal Investigator, Dr. Adolfo García-Sastre, Elected to the National Academy of Sciences

Dr. Adolfo García-Sastre, from the Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis (CRIP), was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in April 2019. This prestigious appointment recognizes a career of original work and notable research accomplishments. Just a couple of Dr. García-Sastre’s outstanding contributions to the state of the science include developing a rapid system of reverse genetics that allows researchers to study how influenza viruses cause disease and defining the role of influenza non-structural protein NS1 in dampening the host immune response. As a leader in the molecular virology and influenza fields, he joins the ranks of several other CEIRS investigators who are members of the Academy.
